Mike Heeg started his "water" career when he was just a wee lad. He and his father built a 15' sailboat which he sailed every summer at their Kincardine cottage. A family trip to Myrtle Beach when he was 10 left him looking out to sea and thinking that someday he would be a sailor! Five years later found him crewing on a trimaran which dismasted off of N. Carolina at night, and in the morning found themselves in front of the very beach and hotel that he sat as a child gazing out with his dream of becoming a sailor! A summer with 3 other friends at age 16 found them flying by bush plane and then canoeing and kayaking down the Nahani River in NWT. At 17 year of age, more sailing adventures occurred on the square rigger "UNICORN" sailing from the Carribean to Bermuda and New York. Finally, Mike decided to build his own boat and sail around the world. In '76, after sixteen months of intense labour, "ISHMAEL" was ceremoniously launched in Delta B.C. She was a 37' Jim Brown Searunner trimaran, an epoxy system over wood. For the next several years, Mike conducted dive charters out of Victoria, B.C. before working in the merchant marine on offshore tugs to California and Alaska out of Prince Rupert B.C.

Claire's love of water grew from her upbringing in N.W. Ontario, where she grew up in the bush with plenty of canoeing, fishing, and outdoor adventure.

Mike and Claire met in Prince Rupert before getting married 2 weeks before setting sail in 1980 which, would take them around the world on their "honeymoon". This voyage included building performance multihulls in Australia, delivering and caretaking boats, and finally ending in Grenada W. I. where they ran their own day sail business and then eventually taking over Spice Island Charters in the mid '80's. Upon return to Canada and after a season of boat building at Harbour Marine Services in Port Credit, Mike began working with George Hinterhoeller at Hinterhoeller Yachts as an agent for the Nonsuch, Niagara, and Limestone models. After several successful years there, Mike and Claire formed Niagara on the Lake Yacht Sales in '87. Presently, they are pleased to be agents for the new Nonsuch catboats built by Andy Wiggers, as well as brokerage boats.
